Allison Konovalova, LMFT

I’m grateful to be a part of your journey toward healing.

Come join me in a safe space where we can talk about anything and everything!

Hi, I’m Allison. I’m a FL licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who works with people struggling with many different kinds of challenges. I work from a family systems perspective as problems that cause anxiety, depression, substance abuse, and relationship issues are often related to current or past relationships, trauma, or environmental triggers.

My specialty area is working with couples, however I have been providing individual, family and group therapy for many years.

I am passionate about cooking and how food affects the mind. I am a long time proponent of plant-based nutrition, although I am not a vegetarian (I love my fish and seafood, and do eat meat sometimes). I approach therapy by examining how the mind, body, and spirit are being nurtured or neglected, and diet/nutrition is part of the thorough intake when you start the therapeutic process.

What’s it like to work with me?

“I enjoy Allison’s style, she’s kind and friendly but gets straight to the point. She quickly helps pinpoint the areas where you need the most help.”

“I like that she’s more directive, and doesn’t only listen but gives helpful feedback.”

“She provides material like articles, podcasts and videos to help you gain more insight on topics, which is really helpful.”

Plant Based Nutrition

I believe very strongly in the importance of nutrition in maintaining good mental and physical health. I am passionate about cooking and the science behind how what you eat affects your mood state and physical body. Did you know that it is estimated that 90 % of serotonin is manufactured in the digestive tract? What we eat does affect neurotransmitters in our brain, which in turn affects how we feel.

What you stand to gain by eating more plant based:

“Eating a plant-based diet has been linked to lower risk of obesity and many chronic diseases, such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, inflammation and cancer. Rich in vegetables, fruits, legumes and reduced-fat dairy products, these dietary patterns have been linked to lower risk of obesity and chronic disease.” There is enough scientific research out there to show that plant based eating produces far more benefits and lowers risks associated with cancer.

Nutritional Assessment

If you would like to experiment with changing your diet, I can help advise you on first step dietary changes as well help you set goals to achieve your ideal nutrition and fitness levels. For me, assessing each client’s diet is paramount to determining which areas could use improvement as well as any possible deficiencies that could be affecting mental or physical health.
